{"id":640,"date":"2014-05-19T21:08:49","date_gmt":"2014-05-19T20:08:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/archaeovision.eu\/?p=640"},"modified":"2014-05-20T03:18:27","modified_gmt":"2014-05-20T02:18:27","slug":"rode-imaging","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/archaeovision.eu\/en\/conference\/rode-imaging\/","title":{"rendered":"EMYA and the Rode Imaging Event"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>During the past week, Archaeovision members James Miles and Hembo Pagi, gave a number of talks in Tallinn, Estonia on the research that Archaeovision is able to provide.<\/p>\n<p>On the first day, James presented a paper at the &#8220;Creating the Magic: Matching Culture and ICT&#8221; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ecultobservatory.eu\/sites\/ecultobservatory.eu\/files\/eCult_Tallinn%20DD%20programme%20v1.0_0.pdf#overlay-context=events\/ecult-2nd-dialogue-day-tallinn\" target=\"_blank\">eCult Dialogue Day<\/a>\u00a0at the<a href=\"http:\/\/www.kunstimuuseum.ee\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\"> Art Museum of Estonia<\/a>. The eCult day was <span style=\"color: #444444;\">organised in collaboration with the\u00a0<\/span><a style=\"color: #2883de;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.europeanmuseumforum.info\/emya\/emya-2014.html\">EMYA &#8211; European Museum of the Year Award<\/a><span style=\"color: #444444;\">\u00a0event with several high profile museums in attendance. James&#8217;<\/span>\u00a0paper highlighted the 3D recording aspects that Archaeovision is able to provide within archaeology and cultural heritage. It touched upon the research developments that Archaeovision R&amp;D are making within virtual museum displays and further discussed the potential that laser scanning and RTI have when published\u00a0online for public dissemination. The event was attended by experts in the field of digital recording and imaging, software developers and conservators. James and Hembo both gave papers on the first day of the event. Hembo gave a presentation on the imaging work that has been completed on the\u00a0St Nicholas\u2019 Church\u00a0altarpiece and James gave a paper on his photogrammetry and RTI work on the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/acrg.soton.ac.uk\/blog\/3169\/\" target=\"_blank\">Hoa Hakananai&#8217;a<\/a>\u00a0statue. The papers were meant more to introduce the techniques to the conservators and generate interest in their application within their field of expertise. This was followed by the second day where we presented various techniques through a series of workshops where we discussed the best practice of collecting data and how best it could be used within their studies. The event allowed for the recording experts, software developers and conservators to work together to create applications or software that met the needs of the experts.\u00a0A number of ideas were put forward\u00a0which\u00a0allowed the developers to say how easy it would be to complete. Two main ideas were chosen, the first was a way to combine a\u00a0multitude of recording techniques within one model and the second focussed on developing a new RTIbuilder. More on this will be discussed in a blog post that we will link to later.
